FINDLAY, Ohio (WLIO) — The defending Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League champion Lima Locos opened the 2026 season with a comeback victory, defeating the Flag City Sluggers 10-6 on the road.
Flag City, entering just its second season of existence, grabbed the early lead in the first inning. Mickey Anderson lifted a fly ball to center field that dropped in for a hit, allowing Miles Mitchell to score for a 1-0 advantage. The Sluggers added another run when Mason Jacob reached safely on a hard-hit ball to third base, bringing home Ty O'Brien to make it 2-0.
The Locos answered in the fourth inning. Jimmy Dionne lined a ball to the opposite field that allowed Cameron Greene to score all the way from first base, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Later in the inning, second-year Loco Grant McGuire chopped a single through the right side to plate Dionne from second and tie the game at 2-2.
Flag City regained the lead in the fifth when Anderson came through again, lining a fair ball down the left-field line as Brett Reed raced home to make it 3-2.
The game turned in the seventh. With the bases loaded, Avery Wilson drove a deep fly ball to left field for the first home run of the Locos season, a grand slam that gave Lima the lead for good.
Lima continued to add on from there, pulling away for a 10-6 victory in its season opener.
