It's a tradition to put on these food and drink stalls around the fair, and also to get the students themselves involved. If you stop by one of these stands, you may see students from the schools working a shift. Whether they're a student athlete or a member of the band, they say that the support from these fundraisers plays a big part in being able to do what they love while in high school.

Allen East Local Schools is well into the second week of their Under the Sea Summer Reading Program, and it is going swimmingly. This is the first ever Summer Reading Program Allen East has held. Kari Spencer became the new Librarian in January. She presented the idea to administration, and they happily agreed. Throughout the week, children take part in games, crafts, and of course reading. They can cash in books read for entries in prize drawings. Spencer says there are proven positive results of reading over the summer, and this is all just part of the job.

The class settled on a fundraiser that they dubbed Make A Change. They designed makeshift piggy banks for classrooms to collect students' spare change. The money raised will go towards Feeding America, a network of food banks that includes our area's own West Ohio Food Bank.

Allen East students took an afternoon to see how the decision to drink underage can spark a chain reaction. The national Students Against Destructive Decisions organization brought the underage drinking prevention presentation The Smashed Project to the school as a part of a pilot program to use theater to show students what they can do if they find themselves having to make a decision involving alcohol.

Students from Bath and Allen East Local Schools teamed up to show parents the S.A.D.D. reality many of today's teens face on the party scene. Bath and Allen East Students Against Destructive Decisions put on a mock party to show parents the reality their teens can face at high school parties, whether it’s peer pressure to drink or do drugs, sexual assault, or things that some students may see as more harmless.
