Allen East students hold penny drive for suicide awareness

Students at Allen East decided to effect change by bringing in their pocket change.

Allen East students held a penny drive to raise money for suicide awareness. The school raised over $1,200 through their efforts and got to see their teachers dance it out as a reward. It is a friendly competition among the grades and fun for the students, but their cause this year sits a little closer to their hearts.

"Every year we pick a charity of something that we think is a good cause and is really impacting our community," says student council member Sydney Miller. "Last summer we lost one of our athletes and incoming freshman to suicide and this fall we lost a past student to suicide."

The money raised was donated to Coleman Behavioral Health and the Family Resource Center.
