With the kids returning to the classroom next month, the Lewis Family McDonald's are making sure that families are prepared through their Backpack Giveaway! On Monday evening inside the McDonald's lobby in Delphos, school-aged children along with the help of their parents picked out their brand new backpack. Each backpack was filled with school supplies ranging from new pencils and erasers to notebooks, folders, and colored pencils. As the kids sifted through their new belongings, Monday's mission is to ensure that all kids have everything they need for a successful year of learning.
Lima Chevrolet Cadillac, with the help of several other local businesses, has filled about 100 backpacks with school supplies. Everything from tablets, folders, pencils, and glue can be found inside. It's a way that they can give back to the community.
As summer continues, the Lima City Schools are preparing for students' return to the classrooms.
Wednesday marks the halfway point for the 4-day camp offered to kids in grades 2 through 10. The camp offers a collection of stem-focused activities that allow students to prepare themselves for future education. Campers were given the opportunity to make their own videos, compete in a rocket league as an e-sports team, and dissect a sheep brain.
SAFY wants to make sure families are prepared to send their kids back to school with a backpack filled with school supplies. On Saturday, they held a drive-up donation where they provided a bag lunch, goodie bag, and backpack to every kid.
Wireless Zone, a Verizon retailer in Van Wert, set up a tent outside their store to hand out 180 backpacks filled with supplies for kids. Every year they give away school supplies to make sure kids across the country are prepared for the start of the school year.
It's back to school time and with that comes homework, but fitting that huge haul into a backpack can make it too heavy for young students.
This Sunday, August 14th, the NAACP and Grace Church Worldwide Ministry will partner to give away bookbags to community children.
