Allen County commissioners took questions from Lima Rotarians on Monday as they delivered their annual State of the County address.

The Allen County Commissioners approved a lease to move the Child Support Enforcement Agency into the first three floors of Cook Tower, after a $3.5 million remodel expected to begin in 2026.

This is not the first attempt to annex the land. An expedited annexation request was brought before Delphos City Council in May, drawing significant public interest. While the city supported the move, Marion Township Trustees opposed the expedited portion of the request. As a result, the property owners are now pursuing a standard annexation process, which requires a public hearing.
"Any of our veterans that are waiting for their appointments or their rides to appointments, they now will have a place to get in out of the weather," said Allen County Commissioner Brian Winegardner. "There will be a bathroom in there, lobby, office area, storage and so on. So I think it will be a good fit for what our veterans need."
"It's important to keep ongoing dialog between our counterparts and county government,” said Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith. “As we said before, our residents don't know, you know, when the city stops and the county line starts. And so being able to come together in these joint meetings, discuss issues that are of concern to our residents, but also to celebrate successes that we've been able to have together is very important."
Commissioners approved the contracts for the gold, blue, and support unions at the Allen County Sheriff's Office. This covers most all employees at the sheriff's office. There are no re-openers for wages in the agreements and commissioners say that is a great help with the budgeting process by knowing what salaries will be for the next three years.
Allen County commissioners have been getting calls from residents about smaller solar projects wanting to build in the county. Senate Bill 52 made it possible that commissioners could make the county closed to any solar project of 50 kilowatts or larger. There is nothing in the bill concerning smaller projects.
Corner of Wayne and Union being looked at for possible garage site for Allen Co. Veterans Commission
The Allen County Land Bank has ownership of the property at the corner of Wayne and Union, where they were able to demolish this old building leaving a usable lot. County commissioners are looking to build a new structure that will accommodate the Allen County Veterans Commission vehicles and are interested in this site.
