February 3, 2025, Press Release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol: COLUMBUS – The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds all motorists to do their part in keeping roadway workers safe by moving over a lane and slowing down when you see an emergency vehicle on the side of the road.

COLUMBUS – The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding motorists of the increase in deer-involved crashes during this time of year. Since 2019, there have been 109,507 deer-involved crashes on Ohio roadways. While 95% of deer-involved crashes only resulted in property damage, 44 crashes were fatal and resulted in 45 deaths. Additionally, from 2019-2023, 47% of these crashes occurred in October, November and December, with 22% occurring in November alone. "Practicing safe driving habits and staying fully focused on the road increases your chances of spotting deer before it's too late," said Colonel Charles A. Jones, Patrol superintendent. "If you do strike a deer, prioritize your safety by moving to a secure location if possible, turning on your hazard lights and reporting the incident."

June 17, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol: Defiance - The Ohio State Highway Patrol's Defiance Post is investigating an injury crash involving a commercial vehicle and a passenger car. The crash occurred at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024. The crash was located at the intersection of Mansfield Road and Schubert Road.

May 23, 2024, Press Release from the Office of Governor Mike DeWine: (COLUMBUS, Ohio)—  Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) Director Jack Marchbanks today announced more than two dozen road safety projects that target areas with a history of severe and deadly crashes.  As part of ODOT's Highway Safety Improvement Program, nearly $87 million will be invested into 28 roadway safety projects in 22 counties, with the majority of the projects focused on improving dangerous intersections. According to ODOT, crashes at intersections account for roughly 30 percent of all traffic deaths each year, killing 362 people in 2023 and 104 people so far this year

A section of Allen County will see increased patrols in response to alarming traffic numbers. The Ohio Highway Patrol and the Allen County Sheriff's Office will be working together to cut down on crash related issues on the west side of Allen County.

The Ohio Highway Patrol and AAA are reminding drivers of the dangers of distracted driving. April is also Distracted Driving Awareness Month. AAA will be running a prevention initiative titled "Don't Drive Intoxicated. Don't Drive Intexticated. AAA states that the goal of the campaign is to remind drivers that the consequences of alcohol-impaired driving and smartphone use behind the wheel could be the same -- crashes that result in death or injuries.
