A group of local volunteers got together and constructed a beautiful, new playhouse for area children to play in! Volunteers from the United Way of Greater Lima pulled out the power tools and put together a 6-foot long, 5-foot wide, and 7-foot high cedar wood log cabin playhouse along with a garden center. The new playhouse and garden center was built at the West Ohio Cap Early Learning Center area for the children in the Head Start program, giving them a safe place to learn and play. Volunteers say building the playhouse is a great way to give back to the community.

The United Way of Greater Lima kicked off its new fundraising campaign and thanked the supporters for their last one. The 2024 campaign goal is 1.6 million dollars; that money will help fund 40 different programs at United Way's 36 partner agencies. The programs that get the funding need to promote the United Way's core values of health, education, or financial stability. Each dollar you donate can go a long way to help area nonprofit organizations.

As part of the Day of Caring, the West Ohio Food Bank offered a no-registration needed food distribution to reach out to more people. And what a reach it had.  They opened the gates nearly an hour early due to the long line reaching west on Kibby Street back to Meat City. Within an hour, 600 families had been through. Thousands of pounds of food left the food bank and into the homes of those needing a little help to make ends meet.

Many hands make light work, and that is just what happened at the West Ohio Food Bank today. More than 80 volunteers from the United Way's Day of Caring were at the food bank doing a variety of things. They helped on the food distribution line, assembled senior boxes of food, and even painted around the warehouse. The amount of work that was done with that number of people only took several hours instead of days or just being pushed off until later.

Around 300 volunteers rolled up their sleeves to give back at the 4th Annual Day of Caring. The United Way of Greater Lima kicked off a day full of work with a breakfast for the volunteers on Friday morning. More and more people were ready to make an impact where they live and work by helping the United Way’s partner agencies get a variety of projects, done that they may not have the financial resources to do, like landscaping or painting. This is only Derek Stemen’s fourth month on the job as president of the United Way of Greater Lima and is impressed by everyone's spirit of giving and caring.
