Emerson Jeffrey, 35, appeared Thursday in Allen County Common Pleas Court for a suppression hearing ahead of his April jury trial.

A new Magistrate Judge has been appointed in Allen County. Destiny Caldwell was named Magistrate Judge in Allen County Common Pleas Court. Caldwell was previously an Assistant Prosecuting attorney at the Allen County Prosecutor's Office. The court has seen an overflow of multiple docket cases, and having the magistrate will help ease the workloads of judges.
A Lima woman convicted of shooting into a home has been sentenced to prison.
36-year-old Julia Slayton was sentenced to six years in prison for improperly discharging a firearm into a home with a firearm specification. A jury found her guilty of the September 2018 offense. Witnesses said Slayton was running around Willow Lake Apartments firing a gun. A bullet had struck a Brower Road home with a mother and her son inside, but uninjured. Slayton claims she was in an altercation with the father of one of her children when he hit her in the head. She said after that, she remembers having the gun, but doesn't remember firing it or what she was firing at.
Tuesday commenced the trial of 27 year old Lima Native Dalton Crowe. He is alleged to have committed felonious assault against his friend Joshua McPheron after an incident on April 3, 2018 resulted in McPheron being treated for multiple stab wounds. Although the defense differed to make any opening remarks, the state argued the evidence was clear.
