According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, the 81-year-old homeowner, who had a history of Parkinson's disease, lost his footing and slipped into the pool while walking in the backyard with his wife. She ran to the road and flagged down a passing motorist, who called 9-1-1.

“But what the opportunity is,” said Kody Graham, head swim coach at the Lima YMCA, “is we get a chance to teach young swimmers, young people in our community, how to be safe around water. We also get a chance to interact with their parents, to share the language we use and the process we go through — how to safely enter and exit a body of water, and how to protect themselves in challenging situations.”

First responders called out to reports of a car into a pond off of Buckeye Road, just west of McClain Road, in Shawnee Township. The call came in at 5:23 p.m. Friday evening. Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers who assisted at the scene say the driver of the car drowned, while a passenger suffered injuries. We'll have more on this as more details become available.
