Shelby County Drowning

SHELBY COUNTY, Ohio (WLIO) - An elderly man in Shelby County drowned Sunday evening after falling into the swimming pool at his residence. Rescue crews from the Port Jefferson Fire Department and Perry-Port-Salem EMS were called to the 17000 block of Mason Road just after 6:30. That's in Salem Township, a few miles northeast of Sidney.

According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, 81-year-old Keith Bolin, who had a history of Parkinson's disease, lost his footing and slipped into the pool while walking in the backyard with his wife. She ran to the road and flagged down a passing motorist, who called 9-1-1.

The pool had just been opened, and the water was so murky, Bolin couldn't be seen in the water. It's believed he may have been underwater for as long as 15-20 minutes until deputies, rescue crews, and family arrived at the home and were able to locate him in the deep end of the pool.

After Bolin was pulled from the water, CPR and other life-saving measures were attempted; however, they were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is handling the investigation, but it's considered to be an accidental drowning.
