Are you ready to roll up your sleeve and save a life? Solvita Blood Center and the Elida FFA are teaming up for another blood donor day on January 15, 2025. Blood donations seem to fall during the wintertime, and local hospitals are constantly using blood supplies for not only emergency situations but also other scheduled procedures.

Some local kids had a fun-filled educational adventure around Lima on Monday. Elida schools had their students out on an educational field trip as part of their dare program, which included both the Allen County Juvenile Detention Center and juvenile court. In the courtroom, the kids got to participate in a mock trial to learn about the ins and outs of how the justice system works. The students were picked for each role and were assisted by the court staff in the case of the stolen video game. A good way to make education fun.

An award-winning author and illustrator urges the students at Elida Elementary to dream big. Bruce Hale has written and drawn over 70 different books. He started with picture books and then got into chapter books, creating such series as "Chet Gecko Mysteries" and the "Clark the Shark" series. Hale talked to the kids about his path to becoming an author and the importance of using their imagination.

Elida Middle School students preparing for their futures thanks to a new hands-on class. The "Career Connections" class is a new course that 7th and 8th grade students can take to prepare them for careers they are interested in. The course provides hands-on experience in a variety of careers such as sports medicine, engineering, robotics, and drone technology, just to name a few. According to school officials, the program was added so students become more prepared on what career they want to pursue at an earlier age so they don't have to wait until high school.

Solvita sponsored the first blood drive of the school year over at Elida High School. This is the first year Solvita has partnered with Elida's Future Farmers of America (FFA) blood drive. The drive was open to students and the public and had over 40 people registered. There were snacks and free Texas Roadhouse peanuts and rolls on hand for anyone who donated.

September 10, 2024, Press Release from the Elida Local School District: The Elida High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) students are sponsoring a Blood Donor Day with Solvita on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 from 9:00am until 2:00pm in the Elida High School Auxiliary Gym, 401 East North Street in Elida. Not only will your donation be helping the current blood shortage, but an added incentive to possibly win tickets to the OSU/Michigan Game on Nov. 30.

The Elida school board is taking a closer look at a House Bill that would create a universal voucher program for the state of Ohio. House Bill 290, nicknamed the Backpack Bill, would allow $5,500 for students in grades K-8 and $7,500 for students in grades 9-12 to be put into an education savings account.
