The "Career Connections" class is a new course that 7th and 8th grade students can take to prepare them for careers they are interested in. The course provides hands-on experience in a variety of careers such as sports medicine, engineering, robotics, and drone technology, just to name a few. According to school officials, the program was added so students become more prepared on what career they want to pursue at an earlier age so they don't have to wait until high school.

For students Lacey Graham and Averi Henry who are interested in the emergency medical field, this class provides them with real-world experience that can't be replicated in a traditional class.
"We have learned how to control bleeding on a wound at a patient scene; we have learned how to properly treat a wound; we have learned how to take a pulse; and we have also learned how to properly splint an arm or leg," said Averi Henry, an 8th grader at Elida Middle School.

"I think it's important because it's something you can't learn in a textbook, and it could help you figure out what you want your career to be and help you get more life experience," said Lacey Graham, an 8th grader at Elida Middle School.
The Career Connections class is offered to all 7th and 8th grade students and lasts 18 weeks.
