ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - Some local kids had a fun-filled educational adventure around Lima on Monday.
Elida schools had their students out on an educational field trip as part of their D.A.R.E. program, which included both the Allen County Juvenile Detention Center and the Allen County Juvenile Court.
Elida schools had their students out on an educational field trip as part of their D.A.R.E. program, which included both the Allen County Juvenile Detention Center and the Allen County Juvenile Court. In the courtroom, the kids got to participate in a mock trial to learn about the ins and outs of how the justice system works. The students were picked for each role and were assisted by the court staff in the case of the stolen video game. A good way to make education fun.

"I hope that they can see that the choices that they make have consequences. Hopefully, they make good choices so we don't have to go to a place like JDC or have a court hearing," commented Samantha Tippie, a 5th grade teacher at Elida schools.
"Hopefully, court is not a negative light for them, that they understand that you can make a bad decision and you can grow from that, you can grow from that, and it's not the end of the world. Hopefully, through the D.A.R.E. program and through today, they've learned that this is not something they want to have happen in their life; they don't need to come to court or the detention center. And hopefully, they have had some fun and learned some important things that they can take forward for the rest of their life," stated Judge Todd Kohlrieser, Allen County Juvenile Court.

After all of the mock trial fun, the youngsters went over to Westgate Entertainment Center to do some bowling.
