BLUFFTON, Ohio (WLIO) — Bluffton’s strong season came to a tough end Friday night as the Pirates fell 36-31 to Western Reserve in the opening round of the Division VI playoffs.

The Pirates opened the game with promise as Robby Taylor powered through defenders for a first down, but the drive ended with a costly fumble.

Later in the first quarter, Kizer Young broke through for a big sack, pushing the Blue Devils back five yards and keeping the score tied at zero.

In the second quarter, down 8-0, Parker Lovell punched in a short touchdown run to bring Bluffton within one after the extra point.

Taylor then made his mark on defense, snagging an interception and returning it all the way for a touchdown to give the Pirates a spark.

Despite their efforts, Bluffton came up just short as Western Reserve rallied late to claim a 36-31 win.

The Pirates finish their season with an 8-3 record.
