A number of teachers and district staff with Lima City Schools were honored Monday evening for their service to education. On Monday night, Superintendent Jill Ackerman, the Lima Board of Education, and district staff and their families honored those district employees who have reached 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 years of service to Lima students. A total of 25 district employees received honors and recognition. At Monday night's celebration, we talked with one teacher about what it is like to not only teach for the Lima City Schools for 20 years but to teach for the district she graduated from.

Media sources state that Honda employees have been reporting getting less in their paychecks, some even missing hundreds of dollars. According to a statement sent to employees, American Honda Motor Company says that this is due to "tax withholding errors", while also pointing to a new human resources system and a payroll process for problems. They do further state that they plan to have this issue addressed as soon as possible.

27-year-old Bethel Bekele has been indicted on aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, and felonious assault for the death of 22-year-old Keris Riebel. This week he entered his plea of not guilty by reason of insanity on the charges. On January 1st, the Upper Sandusky Police Department was called to the Dollar Tree for a man waving a machete around inside the store.

The Delphos Police Department received 290 calls for service in the month of December, bringing the total to 4021 calls for the year. The following is a partial list of calls handled for the month of December and do not include traffic citations, crashes, ect.

Allen County commissioners say that retention and recruitment of employees were at the top of the list and they will be working with department heads on wage increases for non-union general fund employees. Early this year they approved an equitable wage adjustment increase for the sheriff's department's union employees. Commissioners also say that utilities, fuel, and food costs have increased and they had to look at department requests as a want or a need.

During the December 5th meeting, Lima City Council moved the ordinance to another reading to further clarify different requirement that certain city employees needed to receive a onetime discretionary bonus of $1,000 for doing essential work during the pandemic.  According to city officials, under the requirements that have been set, there are over 200 employees that would qualify for the bonus.  The total amount of the bonuses will not exceed $420,000.

The postal service is expecting every post office across the country to be busy and is preparing for a massive rush of mail. The United States Postal Service also wants to remind you to ensure that you package your items properly to avoid a holiday disaster

Lima City Council held their second to last regular meeting of the year earlier Monday evening in Council Chambers. On Monday, councilors placed Ordinance 240-22 on second reading, which would authorize the city auditor to pay eligible city employees who worked during the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020 a one-time discretionary bonus of $1,000.
