The City of Lima's Human Resources Director talked to council members about the upcoming process of selecting Lima's next Chief of Police. At Monday night's Human Resources Committee meeting, it was announced that current Lima Police Chief, James Baker, will plan to retire on July 7th. According to Lima Human Resources Director, Della Bradford, there are two Majors with the Lima Police Department eligible to take the Police Chief promotional exam. If one or both of the Majors decide not to run for Police Chief, the City of Lima will provide Lieutenants the chance to take the exam. Following Monday night's committee meeting, we talked with Bradford about the next steps of this process.
56-year-old Timothy Kohlhorst was indicted on charges of rape, gross sexual imposition, sexual battery, abduction, and burglary. Court documents say the offense happened at the beginning of the month. In September, Kohlhorst will be taken to the Forensic Psychiatry Center in Dayton for an evaluation.
LIMA, OH (WLIO) - A Lima man who allegedly stabbed and killed his mother in 2020 has now been ruled competent to stand trial.
After a new mental evaluation, 25-year-old Kevin Stahr was again found to be not competent to stand trial. Stahr was indicted on one count of attempted murder and two counts of felonious assault. On June 4th of 2021, Stahr took a knife and stabbed his mother multiple times. Someone was able to distract Stahr long enough for her to get away and call the police. Stahr will be re-evaluated in a year to see if his mental status changes.
A homeless man will be standing trial for trying to hurt a woman with fire. After two competency evaluations the Allen County Common Pleas Judge Jeffrey Reed says that 20-year-old Jonathan Brown will be standing trial for aggravated arson. In July 2021, Brown allegedly tried to hurt a woman by setting the bed she was in on fire. He underwent two separate competency evaluations, and both doctors say that he can stand trial for the crime. A trial date has been set for April. Since the charge is a Felony 1, if found guilty he could be sentenced anywhere between three and eleven years in prison.
