Tax preparers across the region are working overtime to get last-minute returns prepared, filed, and submitted before the federal deadline. For those who have waited until now, professionals are offering guidance to avoid costly mistakes.
The department will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday to help residents fill out their tax forms. In addition, they will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, April 14 and 15, to accommodate last-minute filers.
Starting Monday, April 7, the Lima Tax Department will offer extended hours for taxpayers. The office will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will also be open on Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for added convenience.
The IRS has important reminders. Have all your information before filing, file electronically, and choose direct deposit for faster returns. Go to irs.gov online if you need help. Earned income tax credit filers can't get refunds before mid-February. The regular filing and paying-without-penalty deadline is April 18, 2023.
The Internal Revenue Service will begin to accept individual filings on January 23rd. Most taxpayers will need to file returns and pay any balances owed by April 18th to avoid penalties and interest. The IRS also says don't rely on getting your refund by a specific date in case the agency needs to do reviews. The IRS normally issues refunds within 21 days.
Cheryl Lawson, CPA and Owner of Lawson Tax and Accounting Services says, “You would get the failure to file penalties if you haven’t filed an extension, you will get a failure to pay penalty if you owe money, so those two penalties. And then you will also have interest added on.”
The City of Lima Tax Department wants to remind residents that their office will be closed for Good Friday which only gives you 2 days to get assistance with your city income tax filing. They are opened Thursday and Monday. The federal government extended the tax filing deadline to Monday, April 18th because of April 15th landing on the Good Friday holiday.
Lima Taxation Department is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4:30 pm on the first floor of the city building at 50 town square. The deadline to file taxes has been pushed to Monday, April 18th due to the 15th being on the Good Friday Holiday. The important thing they stress is to make sure you file on time.
