According to court documents, Seawright legally bought more than 50 firearms from around April 17, 2018, to about Dec. 12, 2022, at federally licensed dealers throughout Northeast Ohio.

Last year, hunters tagged 15,470 deer during the gun weekend, with a three-year average of 13,417.

The shooting range permit requirement is waived for veterans on all Division of Wildlife Class A, B, and C shooting ranges for that day. The ODNR Division of Wildlife is providing a free range day as a thank you to veterans for their service. Veterans can visit either the Delaware or Spring Valley class A ranges between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to get specialized instruction. A variety of firearms will be available to use at no charge.

August 29, 2024, Press Release from the United States Department of Justice: TOLEDO, Ohio – Aron McKillips, 30, of Sandusky, Ohio, was sentenced to 41 months in prison by Judge James G. Carr, after pleading guilty to interstate communication of threats and unlawful possession of a machine gun. McKillips pleaded guilty to the offenses in court on April 9, 2024. According to court documents, from September 2021 to July 2022, McKillips made at least five online threats to harm or kill law enforcement officers. In one such threat, he submitted a photo he took from his residence while aiming a semi-automatic rifle at an officer who was parked in a police vehicle further down the street who was there to assist residents on an unrelated matter.

The "Stand Your Ground" Law goes into effect in the state of Ohio effective today. In the past, the law required a person to retreat from a hostile situation before using their firearm in self-defense. The new law now eliminates that requirement. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed a bill changing the use of firearm policy back in January of this year.
