On Monday night, Lima City Council passed the first ordinances of 2025 along with the Lima Police Department providing council a brief report on their traffic trailer usage. First, legislation was passed to sell 3 parcels of land located at 1434 S. Union Street, 108 E. 7th Street, and 0 S. Union Street to the Health Partners Foundation. Additionally, council unanimously passed legislation for Mayor Sharetta Smith to enter into a contract with Ben's Construction Inc. for the mayor's $1.5 million Better Together Plan of demolishing blighted neighborhood properties.
A two-alarm fire severely damaged a Lima home early Friday morning. Just before 2:30 a.m., the Lima Fire Department was called to 716 South Judkins Avenue. The fire was seen coming from the front of the home and garage. Shawnee Township Fire Department was called for mutual aid.
The Lima Fire Department responded to a call of a house fire Saturday afternoon. Firefighters went to Orena Avenue to combat the fire. Luckily, nobody was in the home when the fire started around 2:30 Saturday afternoon. Multiple engines were on the scene to help tackle the flames.

Rhodes State College getting a visit from the top man in charge of higher education in the state of Ohio. Chancellor Mike Duffey toured the facilities at both the Rhodes State Campus but also the Borra Center for Health Sciences in downtown Lima. Duffey oversees Ohio’s two-year and four-year colleges, universities, and technical centers.

The City of Lima is looking at buying some property in Downtown Lima, and they will get an update on another multi-million dollar project that is moving right along. Council will also vote to go after two grants from the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
A Lima family is lucky to be unharmed after a Jeep plowed into their living room late Monday morning. Just before 11:30 a.m., Frank Cage and his family felt their house shake as a Jeep Grand Cherokee was in their living room. Cage says he and his wife had just left the room minutes before the vehicle came crashing through. According to officials on the scene, eyewitnesses say the jeep was traveling south on Blackburn Street when it continued across Elm Street into the Cage's yard and then into the home, taking out the picture window and wall.
