More than 4,500 locations will open to collect Operation Christmas Child shoebox gifts for the Samaritan’s Purse project. Volunteers are preparing to collect shoebox gifts during National Collection Week, Nov. 14 - 21. Operation Christmas Child has been collecting and delivering shoebox gifts—filled with school supplies, hygiene items and fun toys—to children worldwide since 1993. Anyone can pack a shoebox! In 2022, Operation Christmas Child hopes to collect enough shoeboxes to reach another 11 million children.

There was a sea of pink around Mercy Health-St. Ritas Saturday morning as people took to the sidewalks to help in the fight against breast cancer.  The “I Pink I Can” 5K not only raised awareness to the disease, but also celebrate the survivors of breast cancer.  Around 250 runners and walkers took part in the first annual event.  There were even prizes for people wearing the best pink attire.  Each year there are nearly 287,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer.  5K organizer Aimee Kuhlman came up with the idea for the run, after she was diagnosed herself.

Down at the Merchants Building, the Lima Model Railroad Club has a display set up for kids to play with. The hopes are to get kids interested in exploring the world of model railroads and if they run the trains set at the fair, they get entered into a drawing where they could win their own train set. Thanks to sponsors, the club is giving away two train sets daily.
