LEIPSIC, OH (WLIO) - A fire in Leipsic Wednesday afternoon brought in several departments.
The fire started in a detached garage at a home at 17 E. Center St in Leipsic. The owner came home and saw evidence of the fire after it self-extinguished. Investigators from the fire marshal's office say the fire was intentionally set and they are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for any information that leads to the arrest of the person or people responsible. Just after 8:30A.M., the Leipsic Fire Department responded to a call about smoke coming from the roof of Smokin B’s on Main St. They immediately requested mutual aid from several different areas.
The Leipsic Fire Department says they received a call just after 5:30 a.m. for smoke filling a house on the 100 block of Main Street. When they arrived, they discovered the fire within the walls of the kitchen and were able to contain the fire to just that room. The six occupants in the house all made it out safely thanks to their smoke detectors.
A number of Putnam County fire departments were called out to a fire just north of Ottawa this evening. The Leipsic Fire Department received a call at around 5:30 regarding a shop that caught on fire. The owner of the shop was home at the time and made the call, stating that smoke was coming out of the garage door.
Two people are dead following an early morning house fire in the Putnam County Village of West Leipsic.
