Two local senior care officials, Samantha Kerner, director of sales at Springview Manor, and Jessica Trinko, executive director of Lima Convalescent Home, spoke to the group about how the landscape of senior health care has evolved over the years and what families should consider when making long-term care decisions.

They started as a small nursing home and have grown into three senior living options. The Lima Convalescent Home Friends of the Foundation meeting in their annual luncheon. The facility is now home to not only Lima Convalescent Home but also Lochhaven Assisted Living and The Greens, with more than 140 residents and 170-plus employees. The foundation heard from author Emily Zarecki, who used to live in Lima. Her book "Golden Scars" describes her journey through breast cancer and the death of her husband. She hopes her story can help others.

On Thursday, the Lima Convalescent Home was finally able to show off their year-long project. The Greens at Lima Convalescent Home opened for a public open house. The skilled-nursing home care facility is two buildings with 12 private rooms and bathrooms in each. They're designed like a typical home for long term care. Each building features a common area, dining room, and large kitchen.
