Van Wert County has created memorials to honor those who not only served in the military but also those who protect and serve residents every day. After nearly two years of planning and construction, the American Legion Post 178 unveiled the new monuments in Memorial Park. They already had one that honored those veterans who served in Vietnam, but they wanted to add monuments for those men and women who served in the wars in the Persian Gulf and Afghanistan to honor their service and have a place for them to reflect when they are struggling with issues like PTSD.

GO Ottawa announcing a day of fun, entertainment, and education with Kids Fest. Kids Fest is this Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Memorial Park in Ottawa from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event was created as a way to give families the chance to connect and discover local organizations and businesses that provide services or activities for kids.
The Heritage Trails Park District, in coordination with the St. Marys Kiwanis Club, was also busy planning for the "Walk with Nature Fall Festival" slated to return this fall.
This year’s celebration is particularly special because St.Marys has been designated as a Buckeye Trail town.
Operation Keeping You Warm was in full effect on Saturday as hats, gloves, scarves, and other winter clothing was hung up at the bridge in Memorial Park.
Residents who are in need of warm clothing can come to the wood bridge at St. Mary's Memorial Park, where they will find a variety of items. Hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, and more will be attached to the bridge. Anyone who is in need of warm clothing can come to the bridge and pick out their choice of clothing.
The giant Tailgate for Cancer had to be canceled this year, but the group still managed to hold fundraisers in any way they were able to.
Coldwater Memorial Park recently kicked off the summer with a performance at their brand new amphitheater.
