HDR Design Firm evaluated the facility last year and confirmed that expansion is needed for their female unit along with the medical and mental health area. At this time the jail only has one female block that holds 11 inmates, leaving the intake area as the only option to house additional females. Auglaize County Sheriff Mike Vorhees says expanding capacity within the existing footprint will help fulfill the current need and help corrections officers do their job better.
According to Auglaize County Sheriff Mike Vorhees, the cases for Amanda Hovanec, Anthony Theodorou, and Anita Green have been moved to the Northern Ohio Court in Toledo. Vorhees informs that his detectives are still working with the FBI on the investigation into the death of Timothy Hovanec. Vorhees says they decided that it would be better off if the U.S. Attorneys handle the prosecution of the case.
Sheriff Mike Vorhees got the approval from the Auglaize County Board of Commissioners to submit an application to the state’s Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, asking for at least a $3.2 million grant.
A man and a woman have been arrested following a pursuit that went through Allen and Auglaize Counties. The Allen County Sheriff's Office states that at approximately 12:19 PM Tuesday deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle on I-75 near mile marker 122.
Mike Vorhees was sworn in at the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office earlier this week and has been reacquainting himself with the agency since. Vorhees previously worked with the sheriff’s office for 25 years as deputy, and has served as a police officer for multiple different agencies. He says he is glad to be doing what he enjoys most, which is serving the public.
