Despite the cold, these Lima residents marched in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The over-decade-long tradition held by Lima 6th Ward Councilman Derry Glenn brings everyone together to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. King. They gathered in prayer, sang songs, and shared something they are thankful for that came from his teachings. Despite the below-freezing temperatures, they walked from Reese and Holmes Avenues to the park named specifically for him.

Main Street in Findlay. Dr. King’s legacy was to bring forward the idea of a "Beloved Community", where everyone is important and valued, regardless of race, creed, color, religion, and other barriers society creates. The Lima Family YMCA hosted another "No School Day" to the public today. It offers working parents a place to send their children where they can stay engaged all day. They participate in gym games, swimming, crafts, and science experiments. The coordinator says the response this school year has been great.

Students at Bluffton University took a deeper look into Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s famous "I have a dream" speech Tuesday morning. Dr. LaShonda Gurley spoke with the students about different portions of Dr. King's speech and how they relate to some issues we still see today, including areas of bias and privilege. Dr. Gurley highlighted many forms of those issues and ways the students can continue Dr. King's legacy through their actions.
The Lima community gathered together once again to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The annual breakfast was put on by the Sigma Mu Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and was held at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center. This year's theme was "Connecting Lives Through Unity" - a topic that was discussed with the crowd by Dr. Tyrone Bledsoe, one that he hopes those in attendance will be able to take with them.

Chapter president Pauline Pope says that it's a perfect time to remind people what Dr. King spoke about and how we can make use of that in our lives.
Even though temperatures dipped close to zero, some sledders braved the cold in Faurot Park Monday afternoon. With no school for kids around the area with MLK Day, a few of those students spent their day off with a sled in hand and climbed up the large hill in Faurot Park to speed down into the snow.
