The Lima Area Youth Orchestra performed its annual children’s concert at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center, entertaining about 1,000 students with Disney-themed music. The program continues to bring together young musicians from across the region, with auditions now open for the upcoming season.
With OMEA’s solo and ensemble competition this Saturday, many Lima students are polishing up their work for their performance. Lima Senior, however, hosts something a little different from the other schools.
Young said he received a letter informing him he was eligible to apply and was instructed to submit an audition recording. After following the required steps, he was notified that he had been selected to perform in the series. Adding to the excitement is the mystery surrounding how his name was initially submitted.
Young said, "Basically how it usually works is that teacher has to, like, recommend you, but we couldn't find out what teacher recommended me or anything. I just got the letter in the mail."
