June 27 marks National Sunglasses Day. And while the perfect pair of sunglasses can complete your look, they also play a crucial role in protecting your eyes. When picking out your sunglasses, Dr. Bajic said a dark lens or high price tag doesn’t necessarily offer the best protection for your eyes. It’s more important to look for a pair that has 100% UV protection. You should see this designation on the packaging or sometimes it’s labeled as UV 400.

Your Hometown Stations hosted a Facebook Live event to talk about the April 8th eclipse. Allen County Sheriff Matt Treglia, Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith, Lima/Allen County Chamber president Jed Metzger, and EMA director Tom Berger fielded questions about the influx of people coming to Lima and around Allen County to see the total eclipse. One big thing they stressed: If you live in the area, stay home if you can because of the expected jump in traffic.

Since its inception in 2015, the coalition has been working with the Sight Center of Northwestern Ohio connecting individuals who are visually impaired with services in the region. The group also hosts events including employment fairs, blind bowling, nature hikes, and even trips to sites like "Cosi". To assist in providing these events, they are holding their first ever "Dinner in the Dark".

Eye doctors say kids who spend a lot of time on screens may also experience "digital eye strain" – which can cause headaches, a dry eye feeling, and blurry vision. Ideally, the best way to treat that is by cutting down on screen time. However, if that's not possible, doctors recommend using the 20-20-20 rule. For every 20 minutes of screen time, you give your eyes a 20-second break and try to look 20 feet away.

Ophthalmologists say dry eyes can cause symptoms like redness, blurry vision, and itchiness. Many people also seem to notice the issue more so towards the afternoon or end of the day after they've been looking at a screen for a while. The good news is dry eyes usually won't cause any kind of long-term damage.
