The Lima Astronomical Society is making sure that people get the best view of the once-in-a-lifetime event by selling glasses that are specially designed to view a solar eclipse. They are the only ones in the Lima area selling the glasses. Looking directly at an eclipse is very harmful for your eyes, and the L.A.S. wants to make sure you can enjoy the experience with glasses made in the United States for the April 8th event.

“The last total eclipse we had in 2017, a lot of people bought glasses from China,” says Michael Richie, Lima Astronomical Society. “And China’s stipulation on safety is not nearly as good as what we have here. So some people actually burned their eyes or had sunburns on their eyes. So, we have custom-made glasses, that will protect your eyes and we sell them here at the observatory.”

The glasses are $4 apiece or 3 for $10. They will be on sale at the Schoonover Observatory on Sundays from 2 pm to 5 pm or if you are an organization or business that would like to order a large number of glasses, contact the Lima Astronomical Society through their website www.limaastro.com or through the Lima Astronomical Society’s Facebook page.
