The Cenovus Lima Refinery continues a long tradition of hosting a Christmas party for kids with developmental disabilities. Students at the Children's Developmental Center of Lima and their families were having a lot of fun at the refinery's 66th annual Christmas party. There was free food, face painting, a bounce house, and Santa and Mrs. Claus handing out gifts to all the kids. The students have been excited about the party for a couple of days now, and so are the adults to carry on this tradition for nearly seven decades.
Some Delphos residents got a head start tailgating this morning while enjoying a perfect October day! The Meadows of Delphos threw a tailgate party to get their residents excited for some Friday night football. The Delphos Saint John's and Jefferson marching bands and cheerleaders, along with a few members from both the Blue Jays and Wildcats football teams, came out to fill the air with community pep. The grill was fired up as well for hot dogs and hamburgers, with residents even partaking in games of jenga and cornhole.
Youngsters in New Bremen are kicking off the summer with reading and fun. The New Bremen Public Library kicked off its annual summer reading program with a party for kids of all ages to interact with the community. As the kids arrived, they had the chance to read books, play games, and get creative with coloring. The library also provided hot food and refreshments for families to enjoy. The New Bremen Fire Department, police department, EMS, and local trucking companies were on hand for the Touch a Truck program. The free program runs from June 1st through July 15th, and there is no deadline to register. As times and technology change, getting kids to read has become more of a challenge—a challenge that the library doesn't shy away from.
A couple of hundred people were dancing in the moonlight on top of the downtown Lima parking garage. The anticipation of the total eclipse was being felt by everyone as they patiently waited for the big moment. As it arrived, the air became cooler, there was a light breeze, and it looked like dawn around the city, and it took people's breath away.
Psychologists say someone who deals with perfectionism may become anxious if they want everything at their party to be just right. Or, a people-pleaser may be worried about two relatives getting along or a family member saying something inappropriate at dinner. There are ways to cope with these situations. For starters, remind yourself there is only so much in your control. Also, don't be afraid to ask for help if you are hosting.
