"It's important that we're responsive to our residents and our business owners and our community members," Begonia said. "We really take all of the feedback that they share with us, and we turn that into action through our programs, initiatives, and services."
Through the program, Mayor Smith spends time walking through different city wards, having one-on-one conversations with residents and city officials. The goal is to get an in-depth look at the concerns and priorities that matter most to residents.
Allen County continues to meet the CDC definition of a high transmission community. With only around 37 percent of the population being vaccinated against COVID-19, the county’s greatest concern is for those who are not. Although the mask mandate ended in the state, a mask advisory has come back to Allen county to help slow down or stop the spread of COVID and its variants. The health department says that the guidelines will be ever-changing as new information continues to develop.
A newly-created position at the Allen County Sheriff's Office will work to create outreach programs with the community and build a stronger internal organization.
