LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A new initiative in Lima allows city residents to engage directly with Mayor Sharetta Smith and department heads to discuss their neighborhoods and voice their concerns. The Walking the Wards program has become an invaluable tool for the city's administration to gather feedback and better understand what residents want from their community.
Through the program, Mayor Smith spends time walking through different city wards, having one-on-one conversations with residents and city officials. The goal is to get an in-depth look at the concerns and priorities that matter most to residents.
“We’re looking for answers to three questions,” said Jessica Begonia, Public Information Officer for the City of Lima. “Specifically, what do you love about your neighborhood? What’s something you wish you could change? And then, if you had one priority for a change, what would that be? It’s a great opportunity to answer those questions, give that feedback, and build those connections.”
The first Walking the Wards session will take place on Tuesday, April 8th, at 5 p.m. in Ward 3-B, starting at 308 Nye Street. The event will be hosted by Elma Long. A new feature this year is having a host for each walk.
Residents who are interested in participating can contact Begonia at 419-223-7284 for more information.
