ROCKFORD, OH (WLIO) – Parkway's Brittyn Bruns is one of the top athletes in the Midwest Athletic Conference.

The Panther senior has had a decorated career in volleyball, basketball and softball.

"Her athletic ability is like no other, and she's fearless. I've seen her grow up, and she's put a lot of hard work into it through the years, and it's paid off here in high school, and I know a lot of younger girls look up to her and hope to play like her someday as well," said Parkway softball head coach Trey Stover.

Whether it's on the softball field, the basketball court, or the volleyball floor, Brittyn Bruns consistently performs at a high level for Parkway. Over the past four years, the Panthers senior has grown through every challenge, turning her experience into success.

"From a young age, I knew I loved all three of the sports. So it does take up a lot of time, but being a part of all three has been a blessing because I've got to spend a lot of time with my friends and learned a lot," Bruns said.

After high school, Bruns is taking her talents to the next level. The senior is set to join the volleyball program at the University of Saint Francis.

"So Jordan Henkle does a really good job with preparing you like mentally for the next level. He's a very good coach and he's always reminding you to stay positive. And one of the biggest things you can struggle with in volleyball is being mentally strong. So, I feel like they've set me up really good to be able to balance volleyball and also school life because there's a lot that goes on with like college volleyball. So I feel like they've set me up really good to know how to balance both," Bruns said.

And that balance has allowed Bruns to succeed in the classroom. She will be the salutatorian with a 4.12 GPA.

"As a whole, she's driven. She wants to be the best at both academics, at athletics. She's done a lot to maintain intensity and just be a good overall person," said Parkway science teacher Anita Morton.

While she's at the University of Saint Francis, Bruns will major in nursing.

"I had a very close relationship with my great-grandparents on my mom's side, and when their health started deteriorating, they went into a nursing home. And I got to see, not necessarily nursing, but a little part of the medical field, and I knew that that's what I wanted to do because they left such an impact on my grandparents' lives, and I wanted to do that for other people as well," Bruns said.

As she looks ahead to the next chapter, Bruns says she hopes her impact reaches well beyond the scoreboard and that she can be a positive example for the next generation.

"I want to be remembered as a role model for younger girls and to show that you can do both. You can be a good athlete and also be a good student. It does take a lot of dedication, but being that role model for the younger kids definitely means a lot," Bruns said.

Congratulations to Brittyn Bruns — our newest McDonald's Scholar Athlete of the Week of the Week.
