FINDLAY, Ohio (WLIO) - The Findlay Police Department has released the body camera footage of an officer involved shooting that happened last week.
In a press conference on Monday, police chief Justin Hendren laid out the timeline of events for the incident. Just before 1:15 on the afternoon of August 10th, dispatch received a call from a woman reporting that her husband, Holden Smith, had a gun and was threatening to shoot himself in front of her children. She also said that Smith claimed he would shoot at responding officers.
Officers arrived at the Roadway Inn and found Smith outside. They began negotiating with him for nearly 50 minutes. When Smith pointed a gun at officers, one officer fired a single shot and struck Smith. He was later pronounced dead.
The officer has been placed on leave and the investigation is ongoing with Ohio BCI. The chief declined to answer any questions about Smith's motives until the investigation is complete.
