ST. MARYS, Ohio (WLIO) -Â Even with rainy skies, St. Marys was able to host fun events for children and give away school supplies at its annual SummerFest.
The festival featured various games and activities for families, including plinko, bowling, and face painting. All attendants were entered in a raffle for various prizes. All funds raised from the festival went to the chamber of commerce, and SummerFest board co-chair Kimer Wale said they want to use the funds to give back to the community. Wale added that the festival helps kids enjoy the last days of summer before school begins.
"Our motto is to make memories. The festival takes place at the end of the year, so you know the kids are getting ready to go back to school. We give them a chance to have some fun and (we let) their parents have fun with their kids. We're about giving back to the community," said Wale.
St. Marys Barbarians Motorcycle Club handed out bookbags that kids could fill with supplies for the upcoming school year. The club collaborated with with Root's Pub to ensure that kids have what they need for the year. Club members said giving back is part of their mission.
"We've been here since 1964 in St. Marys Ohio. We want to give back to the community and make sure all the children have school supplies going into this year," said John Burd Jr., president of the club's St. Mary's chapter.
Officials with SummerFest said next year's celebration will be a bit different from this year. Updates about the festival can be found on its Facebook page.
