ELIDA, Ohio (WLIO) - A busy night for area fire departments after pallets piled up at a commercial site went up in flames.
American Township Fire Chief Tom Hadding reported the fire just before 6 p.m. Friday at A & D Wood Products, 112 Ward St., behind the Old Thyme Pantry building. Hadding spotted the fire on his way home from work.
A second alarm was sounded to bring in more manpower from the department. Help was also called in from Delphos and Shawnee Township, along with a ladder truck and firefighters from Lima.
Smoke and flames could be seen from as far away as the Lima Mall, and firefighters had their work cut out for them to keep the fire from spreading.
“When we arrived, we had a building in the back of the complex, had a fire, pretty good size structure fire in the back, we had a propane tank cut loose on a forklift, so it accelerated the fire for us. This time, we're- It's just pallets, and one building, no injuries to personnel or citizens,” says Chief Tom Hadding, American Township Fire Department.
Traffic was being rerouted at the scene while fire crews worked.
Firefighters remained on scene until around 9:20 p.m. Friday.
There was no word yet on a damage estimate.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
