ELIDA, OH (WLIO) - Local ham radio enthusiasts gathered this weekend for their annual field day.
The Lima Fraternal Order of Eagles made a generous donation Monday Evening to the Marion Township Police Department. At the Marion Township Board of Trustees meeting in Allen County, James Fair with Lima Eagles 370 presented a $3,000 check to the Marion Township Chief of Police. The donated funds will assist the police department with updating their radio system to the new MARCS system and help fund any other miscellaneous business, which are things Fair believes will benefit the area.
Columbus, OH (WLIO)- Over 3 million dollars in grant funds have been awarded to fire departments in 76 counties in Ohio.
The Lima Fire Department was called out to the Woof Boom Radio Stations at 57 Town Square just after 11:30 am for reports of heavy smoke coming from the building. A fire had broken out on the second floor on the back side of the building, fire crews had it contained quickly. The cause of the fire appears to be electric in nature, it is unknown the cost of the damage. The radio stations are still on the air. Smoke did spread to the adjacent building. When investigating an alarm at ArtSpace Lima, firefighters discovered a water line broke in their photo lab. The fire department had part of the square and Market St. shut down while they cleaned up from the fire.
Woof Boom radio stations in Lima continued their annual initiative to support Allen County Children Services with a gift drive to collect everything from toys and books to those everyday essentials like laundry detergent and diapers. They managed to pack the van full and unloaded the items today at their Towne Square studio. Money is tight for many during the holidays, and the goal is to lighten the load for the families they support.
The handheld MARCS radio is an officer's connection to assistance and information in their daily routine. The Elida Police Department is preparing to upgrade their radio system. They currently have the 1st generation MARCS which is now outdated and repair parts are not available. The Lima Eagles 370 Foundation has donated $3,000 towards the purchase of a new radio system for the Elida Police Department.
With a little Christmas magic, a true sign of the holidays is burning bright in Downtown Lima. Downtown Lima Inc. and Woof Boom Radio Stations held the first ever "Lights on Lima". Before the tree was lit, there was festival like atmosphere on the Town Square with face painting and activities for the kids. Plus, free popcorn, hot chocolate and cotton candy for everyone to enjoy. Santa was around passing out candy canes to people that came down and Mayor Sharettta Smith read a proclamation declaring the day “Light on Lima” day, and the opening of the holiday season in the city.
Students were able to learn about drones and more during a camp at Rhodes State College. Held at the Cook Hall gymnasium, students competed with head-to-head racing and captures the flag with drones.
