There are a lot of good things going on in Wapakoneta and Auglaize County, and officials from the city, county, and Wapakoneta Schools took time to share what they are doing with the members of the Chamber of Commerce. Wapakoneta City Schools are getting ready to wrap up another school year. This past year, Superintendent Aaron Rex says the district has been focused on getting better every single day. And one thing that will help the students better themselves is a new MakerSpace that they created at the high school.

In a release from the state auditor, Shawnee Township failed to invoice and collect funds for fire and ambulance services to the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center. They were in a contract with the JSMC for fire and ambulance services from April 1, 2021, to March 31, 2023.

The City of Lima Tax Department is extending its office hours to assist residents with their filings. They will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through April 15th. They will also be open on Saturday, April 13th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. They ask that you bring all the documents needed with you.

The bill will fund numerous school, infrastructure, and community projects. Some of the local projects proposed to get funding include nearly one million dollars for the second phase of the Galvin Hall renovation project and $1.7 million for Rhodes State to do renovations. Parks in Waynesfield, Ada, Ottoville, Fort. Jennings and Hancock County have been allocated funds for improvements.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance or VITA program has been going on at the business college since 2009. The program continues to grow each year. The first year the students helped with 30 tax returns, but last year they did nearly 250. To take advantage of VITA, you need to have made less than $70,000 last year and the program is a win-win for both the students who gain experience and internship credits and the people who need help with their taxes.

The agency anticipates close to 129 million individual returns this year and says most refunds will be processed within 21 days. The IRS does have a "Free file" option for people with an adjusted gross income of $79,000 or less. And this year, there is a new software pilot program being offered in 12 states called "Direct file." It opens to qualifying taxpayers in mid-March.

Donations to Ohio’s Wildlife Diversity or State Nature Preserves funds are administered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). The Buckeye State is home to an amazing collection of high-quality forest, prairie, wetland, and streamside habitats which support thousands of native plant and wildlife species. Donations from this program protect those areas, allowing plants and wildlife to thrive.
