The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance or VITA program has been going on at the business college since 2009. The program continues to grow each year. The first year the students helped with 30 tax returns, but last year they did nearly 250. To take advantage of VITA, you need to have made less than $70,000 last year and the program is a win-win for both the students who gain experience and internship credits and the people who need help with their taxes.

"This program has a very positive impact for the accounting students. They get experience, they know what's a real tax return," says Professor Yan Zhou, Accounting Professor at Ohio Northern University. "It can also help the own local families, their friends, relatives to file tax returns if their AGI, Adjusted Gross Income, is less than $70,000 in 2023. Also, we can help some other senior people locally, the retirees that don't have any help or resource."
