LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The clock is ticking for people to get their income taxes done before the April 15th deadline.
The City of Lima Tax Department is extending its office hours to assist residents with their filings. They will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through April 15th. They will also be open on Saturday, April 13th, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. They ask that you bring all the documents needed with you.
"We get a lot of envelopes every year that just have the city form and have the little notch missing on the corner because they've torn off the attachments. Those attachments are very important. That's what supports the documentation of the tax return. So yes, those are very important, and the Lima residents need to also include the first page of their federal 1040," explained Chris Fast, tax director for the City of Lima.
Fast encourages people to use the secure lockbox in front of the city building to drop off their returns. If mailing them, be sure they are postmarked no later than April 15th, which means you may want to go to the desk at the post office and have them hand-stamped. The tax department is located at 50 Town Square, Lima, OH 45801.
