LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Mulligans Golf Association is providing kids an opportunity to learn about the game of golf, and the life skills that come with it, this summer.
The Mulligans Golf Association started its 14th annual Youth Golf Program today, where kids ages 8 to 17 can learn the fundamentals of golf at Tamarac Golf Course.Â
Kids newer to the sport will learn the basics, while those with more experience are able to get on the course to develop their skills further. On Monday morning the kids worked on putting at the practice green.

Alongside golf skills, kids will learn important life skills that will benefit them both on and off the course.Â
"For example, our word was confidence, so teaching them not only the definition of confidence, but in real life you want to have confidence in anything that you do," said Leiahnni Smith, the head coach for the program. "On the golf course, you want to have confidence in your ability. You're not going to get it right on the first try. You're going to have times where you are doing great, but then you kind of stumble a little bit, and that's ok. So just having the confidence in yourself that, 'you know what? I'm going to keep going and I can do this,' that's really important while you're out here."
38 kids attended Monday morning's session, which is a record for the program. The program operates off the work of volunteers and the Tamarac Golf Course, who both help to chaperone the event and provide supplies, like clubs and balls, for the kids in attendance. An outing will be held in July to help provide funds for the program.
