Broken glass and some other debris ended up on the street and sidewalk in front of Ottoville Hardware and Furniture Company, at the intersection of 3rd and Franklin streets. Fire crews helped to clear away the debris and stabilize the front corner of the structure.
Allen County Commissioners approving roofing projects and entering into contracts for service. Two buildings at the old ODOT property on North West Street will be getting new roofs and the Veteran’s Memorial Civic Center will see a skylight roofing replacement and lighting project. Commissioners say the repairs have been needed for a while.
The grant came from the Ohio History Connection in honor of the anniversary when Ohio got its statehood on March 1st. The grant will be used to help make repairs to the masonry on the outside of the museum and replace the roof on the rear addition of the 160-year-old building. The Ohio History Connection awarded a record $207,000 spread over 18 grants around the state.
Crews are busy working on the auditorium ceiling to repair water damage from the leaking roof. Thanks to some donated work by a local business, there is heat in the building and the space above the stage is back in working order. They have raised over one-third of their $3,000,000 goal. They will continue to go after grants to add to the community support to complete the project.
Allen County Commissioner Brian Winegardner explains, “Regardless of what we use the building for if the roofs not good than that building can’t be used period. So, that’s our goal is to be able to use that building in some fashion for a county agency.”
