So we're working on kind of a marketing campaign and apparel campaign to really raise raise awareness of of how each of our individual behaviors can impact that larger culture.”
A 39-year-old Hocking County woman was sentenced to 20 to 25 years in prison for raping two children, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced today. Irene Marie Day of Logan pleaded guilty on Aug. 1 to two counts of rape, both first-degree felonies, and two counts of gross sexual imposition, third-degree felonies. Her sentence requires her to register as a Tier 3 sex offender upon her release from prison.
A Perrysburg man was sentenced to life in prison without parole for raping a child in Hancock County. 35-year-old Raymond Carter was sentenced this morning on two rape charges. He pleaded guilty to the charges at an earlier hearing, along with child pornography charges. The victim was under 10 years old, and the offenses started in 2018. Carter is facing similar charges in Wood and Franklin counties.
July 8, 2024, Press Release from the Office of Ohio Governor Mike DeWine: (COLUMBUS, Ohio)— Ohio Governor Mike DeWine today announced nearly $900,000 in grants to support law enforcement, prosecutors, and victim advocacy groups in their shared goal of supporting sexual assault survivors and holding attackers accountable. The Ohio Department of Public Safety's Office of Criminal Justice Services (OCJS) is awarding the funding as part of the new Ohio Sexual Assault Investigations Grant Program. Governor DeWine launched the program in February to help with the costs associated with sexual assault investigations, criminal prosecution, and victim advocacy.
A Lima man has been found guilty of raping two girls over multiple years. It took an Allen County jury an hour and a half to find 48-year-old Paul Bowman guilty of 10 counts of rape and five counts of sexual battery. Two additional charges were dropped on the final day of his trial.
The more people that participate in these activities, the more the word gets out that "no means no," and if consent is not given, any sexual activity is considered sexual violence by the CDC. The Crime Victim Services Day One program is equipped to help survivors of sexual violence.
Crime Victim Services is reporting that they saw a 20% increase in the number of survivors of sexual violence serving 621 people. Crime Victim Services says they navigated dual pandemics in 2020 with COVID-19 and racism and stresses no one deserves to be sexually assaulted. Their doors are now open again and urge anyone needing assistance to walk in.
The University of Northwestern Ohio recently received a grant from the Ohio Department of Education that involved funding a community wide conference to talk about the communication and relationship between university officials, law enforcement, and local support services surrounding sexual violence on college campuses.
Rhodes State is among the group of colleges and universities in Ohio to receive funds to prevent sexual violence on campus.
