8th grade students at Heir Force Community School learn that life can get expensive. Superior Credit Union and the Ohio State Extension Office brought the "Real Money. Real World." simulation to the school on Thursday. This hands-on resource walks the students through a process of how to budget their money for necessities like insurance, housing, and some fun stuff like entertainment and clothing. Each student is assigned a job with a salary, and it's up to them to figure out how to get what they need and want with the budget they have.

The Lima senior class spent the morning attending sessions designed to equip and prepare students for the real world. Life isn't always sunshine and rainbows, and OSU Extension's Financial Literacy Program was on-site to provide students with a real-life spending simulation. Students had to spend their paychecks on bills from rent, food, to utilities. The experience gives students a sense of how much it adds up, and you never know what situations life will throw your way.
The college received $100,000, which will go toward the construction of the "Nutrien Agronomy Suite", a set of labs inside the James J. Countryman building. The agriculture technology program is designed to give students hands-on experience with equipment and technology that is used in farming.
Superior Credit Union and OSU Lima held their "Real World/Real Money" workshop with 8th-grade students, putting them through the struggles and headaches that come with managing a monthly budget. Each student received a simulation of living as a 25-year-old adult and was assigned jobs and families. They then would learn to balance their budget to live a month in the life of an adult.
Students at Lima’s West Middle school got a chance to see and understand the responsibilities they may face as an adult. The Lima Senior High School DECA students are helping these 140 eighth graders to make a budget. A budget to manage their money to pay their bills and how to choose wisely when looking at non-essentials. DECA members say this simulation is important for the younger classman.
Students at Allen East High School got to sit behind the wheel of a distracted driving simulation to see the real-life consequences of what it’s like to take your eyes off the road. According to the CDC, car crashes are the number one cause of death for teens in the country, and most of them involve reckless and distracted driving. It’s this preventable health epidemic that the students in SADD are trying to fight.
