In recognition of May as Mental Health Awareness Month, the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) is encouraging increased public awareness and usage of the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. Beginning in May, OhioMHAS is launching a public awareness campaign that includes radio, television, social media, and out-of-home messages in communities throughout Ohio, with a goal of making more people familiar with the potentially lifesaving resource.

The Western Buckeye Region of the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America handed out 4 $500 scholarships to University of Northwestern Ohio students. Last summer, the club raised money through their annual car show. Most of the proceeds went to Habitat for Humanity, but they decided to use some of the money to provide scholarships to students in the applied technology program.

February 21, 2024 Press Release from the Office of Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Aging: (COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Aging (ODA) Director Ursel J. McElroy today announced the launch of the Ohio Nursing Home Quality Navigator – a new online tool providing users detailed information about nursing homes across the state in one convenient digital location. A recommendation of the Governor’s Nursing Home Quality & Accountability Task Force, the Navigator includes a searchable map of all active nursing homes in Ohio with care quality metrics, facility comparison functionality, and other features, such as staffing ratios, specialty services offered, and the number of health and safety violations a nursing home received. The tool is designed to empower Ohioans when considering a nursing home for themselves or a loved one.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (OhioMHAS) today announced details of a new statewide effort to help prevent suicide deaths among Black youth and young adults. The Black Youth and Young Adults Suicide Prevention Initiative is an innovative approach that seeks to reduce suicide by increasing access to high-quality, culturally responsive prevention and early intervention services that work to reduce risk and strengthen protective factors.

The William L. Robinson Young Alumni Award was established in 2004 by the Alumni Advisory Board to honor and recognize William L. Robinson and the 50 years he dedicated to impacting Ohio Northern University students. This award recognizes alumni who graduated within the last fifteen years and who demonstrate passion and loyalty toward their profession, community and alma mater.

U.S. Navy sailors serve and protect from around the globe, and every sailor got their start somewhere. Petty Officer 3rd Class Jordan Brotherwood, a native of Delphos, Ohio, is one of more than 5,000 sailors serving aboard the self-contained mobile airport, USS Abraham Lincoln.

LifeWise of Elida, Spencerville, Allen East, Bath and Columbus Grove will hold a 5k race on Labor Day, Monday, September 4th at 9 am. The event is sponsored by ACTS Ministries (parent of WTLW TV-44 and WOSN) and Tom Ahl Family of Dealerships. The course will start and end at the Sunnydale House next to Elida Elementary School and wind through the village of Elida. Volunteers are welcome to line the streets along the route to encourage participants.
