This year’s Relay for Life will be held on Friday, June 13, at Spartan Stadium. The event will begin with a Survivor’s Lap at 6 p.m., followed by a Luminary Service at dusk to remember those lost to cancer. Food trucks, a silent auction, and other activities will also be available throughout the evening, with the event wrapping up at 10 p.m.

It was a powerful evening at Spartan Stadium as the region gathered to show their support for survivors of cancer. The community came together for the 30th Lima Relay for Life to help raise money for the American Cancer Society Friday evening. The collected funds will go toward cancer research and education along with supporting cancer patients and families. The evening started with the Mercy Health St. Rita's cancer survivors celebration dinner inside Lima Senior followed by the survivor lap around Spartan Stadium. Whether at dinner or on the track, the sight of the community coming together is meaningful for everyone, including cancer survivor Kenneth Wills.

Unity. Healing, Hope. That is what a new group is hoping to do for the Lima area with a “Fill the Stadium” event. They say enough is enough and the violence needs to stop. “Fill the Stadium Lima” is an effort to get the Lima faith community to come together as one body of Christ. There will be no judgment, no agendas, and no doctrines. It will be a day to lift each other up and make a difference in the community.

The Lima Senior Lady Spartan track team got a visit from a very important competitor today. Jessica Beard, an Ohio native and U.S. sprinter, stopped by Spartan Stadium to share her knowledge and experiences with the young runners of tomorrow. Beard was a two-time NCAA champion at Texas A&M where she also obtained a degree in psychology.

Support for Vince Koza continues as he battles kidney cancer. The sports radio personality and former "Your News Now" sports anchor is currently receiving treatment in Columbus. The Lima City Schools are showing their support by dedicating its October 11th homecoming football game to him. Donations will be collected at the gates on Friday. They're also selling "Fight with Koza" t-shirts for $15. The press box at Spartan Stadium will also be renamed the Vince Koza Press Box for the remainder of the football season.

After the tailgate party and before the game, the people that were getting everybody cheering was the cancer survivors as they took a lap around Spartan Stadium. Both schools decided since they were going to have the whole community together for the game, why not use the opportunity to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Lima City Schools and LCC sold out of t-shirts made specifically of game, and they were also selling tickets for a kick for cash opportunity. While the schools may have been rivals on the field, a battle everyone is ready to fight against is cancer.
