LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – The American Cancer Society’s signature fundraiser, Relay for Life, is celebrating its 40th year nationally , and Lima has proudly participated in the event for 31 of those years.
Thanks to the generosity of people in Lima and throughout Allen County, the Lima Relay for Life has raised $2.6 million since its inception to support the fight to end cancer. The event is not only a fundraiser but also a powerful opportunity to honor those currently battling cancer, those who have lost their fight, and the loved ones left behind.
Relay for Life offers a variety of family-friendly activities, with funds supporting essential resources such as patient education, supplies, and programs like the "Hope" House.

“The house is in the Greater Cleveland area, so patients that needed to go to Cleveland for treatment — over 225 patients benefited from that. It’s a free house, the Hope Lodge, that was paid for by the money that Relay raises,” said Cheryl Nagy, Lima Relay for Life Coordinator.
This year’s Relay for Life will be held on Friday, June 13, at Spartan Stadium. The event will begin with a Survivor’s Lap at 6 p.m., followed by a Luminary Service at dusk to remember those lost to cancer.
