According to the utilities department, yesterday's leaks led to 3 to 4 million gallons of water being lost. The sudden change of temperature from last week's arctic blast to the 40s of this week causes the soil to shift, which causes cracks in the pipes, especially some that are around a hundred years old. The city manages about 500 miles of water main pipes, so they often rely on residents to report possible leaks. Crews were out all day into the night doing repairs last night.

The Findlay Fire Department was called out to Cooper Tire around seven o’clock Friday night for reports of a fire in dust collectors on the roof and duct work that leads into the plant.   With the help of Cooper’s own fire brigade, they had the fire under control in a couple of hours.   One Findlay firefighter was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion.   Cooper was on shut down, so there was minimal staff on site when the fire broke out.  The cause of what ignited the fire is under investigation.
