More people filed for unemployment in the month of December. According to the Ohio Job and Family Services, all of the unemployment rates for December in our area went up. Allen County has the highest rate for West Central Ohio at 3.7% Mercer County has the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 2.1%. Auglaize is at 2.4%, Putnam at 2.8%, and Hancock at 2.7%.

The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services released the numbers for all 88 counties. Mercer County had the lowest rate in the state at two-point seven percent. Auglaize and Putnam fell slightly last month. Allen and Hancock Counties remained unchanged from June to July.

The Ohio Job and Family Services released the unemployment numbers for May 2022. Allen County had the biggest drop from 3.6% in April to 3.4% in May. Auglaize and Hancock Counties are the only rates to go up in May. Mercer County is tied for the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 2.1%. Hardin, Logan, and Shelby Counties didn't change from month to month. Paulding and Van Wert counties fell 0.1%. Which is the same as the state as a whole, as Ohio dropped from 3.7% to 3.6 from April to May.

Allen County has the highest unemployment percentage in our area with 3.4%, but that fell from 3.5% in November. Putnam County was the only one to see an increase last month, jumping from 2.1% to 2.4%. Mercer County had the second-lowest unemployment rate in the state with 2.1%.

Counties in West Central Ohio saw a slight decrease or no change in the unemployment numbers from September to October. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services says that Allen and Putnam counties fell just 0.1%.  Auglaize County remained the same. Mercer County continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 2.6%.  Hardin County had the highest unemployment rate in our region at 4.2%.  Logan and Shelby fell 0.1% and Van Wert and Paulding remained the same. Overall, Ohio's unemployment rate fell 0.2% from September to October.
