Planning for this fun-filled day begins in September, and funding for the activities and gifts comes from students having a donation contest to see which staff members will get pied in the face. Students who donated were entered into a drawing for the privilege of throwing that pie at their teacher.
Unity students and their parents get some fun educational activity advice thanks to "Parent Academy"
Unity Elementary is offering a "Parent Academy" to offer advice on teaching lessons that parents and children can do together at home. Like using shaving cream to practice letters and writing, playdough to make shapes and practice counting, and magnetic letters on a cookie tray to learn to spell. The parent was given a stocking full of learning tools for each of their students to take home.
Thanksgiving is almost here, but some students at Lima City Schools kicked off the holiday a little early.
Science Enhancement for Science Advancement, or SESA, came out to Unity Elementary School in Lima to teach about animals, their habitats, and their adaptations. Rachel Smith from SESA told the students all about animals such as gorillas, bees, and spiders, and topics like camouflage and pollination. Students contributed to discussions, participated in demonstrations, and learned what it would be like to see through the eyes of different animals. The program aims to get children interested in STEM subjects from an early age.
