Thousands of crashes occur each year in Ohio due to dangerous winter weather conditions, resulting in serious injuries and fatalities.
January 2, 2025, press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol: COLUMBUS – The Ohio State Highway Patrol wants all motorists to be prepared for inclement winter weather during the month ahead. As some portions of Ohio experienced in late November and early December, the ever-changing winter weather patterns can catch drivers off guard. The best way to promote safe travel during the winter months is to follow general roadway safety and ensure vehicles are winterized.
The 47% of the deer related crashes in Ohio between 2019-2023 happened in the months of October, November and December. Since 2019, there have been 109,507 deer involved crashes in Ohio.
October 8, 2024, Press Release from the Wood County Sheriff's Office: On 10/07/2024 at 3:34 p.m., the Wood County Sheriff's Office was informed of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of US 6 and Range Line Rd in Weston Township. The crash involved a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck and a 2013 Volvo semi-tractor pulling a tanker trailer. The investigation showed that the Chevrolet pickup truck, operated by Jacob Kern, 31, of Deshler, was traveling south on Range Line Road and failed to stop at a stop sign. The pickup traveled onto US 6, where it struck the trailer of the semi tractor-trailer, operated by John Secord, 44, of Lasalle, MI, which was traveling eastbound. The pickup became lodged under the semi-trailer and became engulfed in flames.
Lima City Schools to receive $1.4 million grant to help with purchase of 4 new electric school buses
Lima City Schools will accept a grant to assist with the purchase of 4 electric school buses. The district was selected to receive a $1.4 million EPA Clean School Bus Grant to cover the little over $1.7 million total price tag. In addition to the 4 new electric school buses, the purchase will come with the needed electrical infrastructure and charging stations. District administrators say this is a step toward going greener while also being economically savvy.
This is the 6th year that the UAW Local 1219 and Reineke Family Dealerships have teamed up to help the Veterans Food Pantry of Northwest Ohio.
September 20, 2024, Press Release from the Ohio Department of Public Safety: (COLUMBUS, Ohio) – National Child Passenger Safety Week is September 15-21, 2024 and The Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO) is reminding parents and caregivers that children are best protected in a crash when they are buckled correctly in the right seats for their ages and sizes. This week, OTSO visited Richardson Elementary school in Cuyahoga Falls to observe the new “Buckle Up with Brutus” safety education program created for second and third grade students. The program aims to educate students and families about the importance of wearing a seat belt and using a booster seat.
Dana Incorporated says they will be closing the Lima facility in 2025. The company has confirmed that they are moving the production from the Lima plant, located at 777 Bible Road Lima, Ohio, to other plants in the United States by the end of 2025. The union workers were told about the move Wednesday morning. The plant has been in operation since 1970 and manufactures drive shafts for trucks and commercial vehicles.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Veterans Food Pantry of Northwest Ohio in Lima.
It's only two weeks away, and the organizers are encouraging car enthusiasts to get their rides ready. The annual Veterans' Appreciation Car Cruise-in at the Star Spangled Spectacular is looking for cars and trucks to participate. There will be more than 40 prizes to be awarded in several categories. It's located east of Diamond One in Faurot Park and is free and open to the public.
